“Fishing at Dawn”, Hans Fredrik Goode – description of the painting

Description of the picture:

Fishing at Dawn – Hans Fredrik Goode

After staying in England, the seascape becomes a favorite theme of Hans Goode’s work. The artist paints nature during the time of day, following the traditions of romanticism. The warm golden grayish-brown coloring of the picture attracts attention.

Before us is a magnificent view of the sea bay. Early morning, a pale yellow ball of sun rises above the horizon. The first rays break through the pearl gray clouds, highlighting them with delicate shades of pinkish-yellow and orange. But the blue sky is already visible, promising a clear summer day.

A path of sunlight lays on a calm sea with golden honey and red highlights. The dark gray reflections of ships and rocks quietly tremble in the water.

The artist uses a diverse palette of colors and applies paint in very thin layers, so the color transitions are invisible. Thanks to this, the rocks and the sea seem absolutely real. You feel the freshness of the air and the humidity of the fog, from which rocky ledges glisten here and there.

High unfriendly cliffs stand on the shore of the bay, huge boulders peep out from the sea. Dark shadows lurk in deep cracks. Far into the sea, the blue-gray morning fog slowly recedes, revealing the outlines of high peaks, distant islands, silhouettes of standing ships.

In the foreground we see a small section of the rocky shore lit by the still dim sun, ancient boulders peeping out of the water.

The movement in the picture is brought by the figures of people engaged in business. Two women in a wooden boat help a fisherman standing at sea to catch a fish catch.

Nearby is a two-masted sailboat, lowered a boat with fishermen. Men set up the nets, because at dawn the best catch. Two seagulls fly low over the water.

The bewitching picture of a summer morning is fascinating and you can still admire this romantic landscape for a long time."
